Here is a timeline of the life of the great companion Umar Ibn Al Khattab (RA)
- 573 CE Umar ibn Al-Khattab (RA) was born in Mecca to the Banu Adi clan, which was responsible for arbitrations among the tribes.
- 595 CE Umar (RA) married his first wife, Zainab bint Mazoon. They had several children, including Abdullah ibn Umar.
- 610 CE Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) received his first revelation and began preaching Islam. Umar (RA) initially opposed him and was known for his fierce opposition to the new faith.
- 616 CE: Umar (RA) converted to Islam after reading verses from the Quran. His conversion was a turning point for the Muslim community because of his high status in Meccan society and his reputation as a strong and brave man.
- 622 CE: Umar (RA) migrated to Medina with the rest of the Muslim community in the event known as the Hijrah.
- 624 CE: Umar (RA) participated in the Battle of Badr, the first major battle between the Muslims and the Quraysh of Mecca.
- 632 CE: After the death of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Umar (RA) played a key role in securing the caliphate for Abu Bakr (RA) and served as his advisor during his reign.
- 634 CE: Upon the death of Abu Bakr (RA), Umar (RA) was elected as the second caliph of Islam. His caliphate is known for its vast expansion of the Islamic empire.
- 637 CE: Under Umar's (RA) leadership, the Muslim army conquered Jerusalem.
- 644 CE: Umar (RA) was assassinated by a Persian slave named Abu Lu'lu'ah. He was buried next to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Abu Bakr (RA) in Medina.
